Getting There
Puoux is located on 45 acres east of Cascade Creek and north of Interstate Highway 70, ascending to Bureau of Land Management lands to the north.
The climbing area is easily accessible from the dirt parking area just east of the twin tunnels, west of the No Name exit, directly northwest of the parking area.
Parking
Park in the dirt parking area north of Interstate Highway 70. Important: This is not an official rest area of the federal highway system.
Exercise caution when exiting and entering the highway
Park along the western/northern side of the area
Colorado Department of Highways equipment is often stored there
Climbing Guidelines
⚠️ Required Documentation
All climbers must complete and submit a climbing waiver before visiting the area. This protects both climbers and the preserve owners while ensuring everyone understands the inherent risks of the sport.
Preserve Rules
- No overnight camping, campfires, or hunting allowed on the property
- Carry out all trash and personal waste
- Respect the natural environment and other preserve visitors
- Do not cut switchbacks on trails
- Be aware that cellular service is available in the area for emergencies
Climbing Safety
- Inspect all gear before use
- Use proper belay techniques at all times
- Wear a helmet
- Check anchor integrity before trusting your life to it
- Be prepared for changing weather conditions
- Know your limits and climb within your ability level
Leave No Trace
- Stay on established trails to prevent erosion
- Pack out everything you pack in, including tape and chalk bags
- Use existing anchor points when possible
- Minimize chalk use and brush off excess when done
- Respect wildlife and vegetation around the climbing area
Community Respect
- Be courteous to other climbers waiting for routes
- Keep noise levels reasonable
- Share beta freely and encourage fellow climbers
- Help maintain the area by removing litter you find
- Report any safety concerns or damaged equipment to preserve managers
